Turf took centre stage at Hampton Court this year when the RHS decided to commission 5 sculptures from industry specialists, all under the guidance of avant-garde designer Tony Smith. For the first time in show history the RHS allowed unplanned exhibits as the sculptures all had to be designed and built in 2 days.
Show visitors were asked to vote for their favourite piece by putting coins in associated collection boxes, with all funds donated going to the RHS Campaign for School Gardening which promotes gardening in schools. ‘Snake in the Grass’ by artist John Humphreys and gardener Andy Hyde came out on top.
The RHS selected Rolawn to supply the turf for the sculptures and all other areas turfed by the show organisers, including a feature lawn on the garden celebrating 50 years of Britain in Bloom.
