Selecting a landscaper

Rolawn is an expert in cultivating turf. We leave the work of installing turf to professional landscapers.

When selecting a landscaper it is important to establish to your own satisfaction that the company is competent and experienced. We recommend talking to previous customers and taking time over your selection. Making the wrong choice could lead to considerable frustration and even wasted expenditure.

These are Rolawn’s guidelines to help you select a landscaper:

There are many excellent landscapers who choose not to be members of a trade organisation, however, the two leading professional landscape bodies in the UK are:- The British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) and the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL).

They each have a vetting/screening process prior to admission, codes of conduct, free lists of their members, and dispute resolution systems in the event of a problem.

Whether a member of a trade association or not, insist on evidence of the following before allowing work around your home:

  • Adequate insurance cover in place for all risks that could affect you, your family, your property and the landscaper, his operatives and any subcontractors or members of the public.
  • A written quotation should detail the work to be done, materials to be used, price to be paid and completion date.
  • Samples of material to be used.
  • Ask to speak to some of their recent customers for a reference.
  • Before going ahead get a basic written contract in place.
