Rolawn looks to the future with increased production capacity

Expansion plans are well underway at Rolawn that will increase capacity and improve loading efficiencies; which is all necessary to meet ever increasing demand.

As well as being the producer of Britain’s Finest Turf, Rolawn is renowned for its UK market leading, high quality topsoils and barks. Sales growth over the last 12 months, and confidence in the growth to come, has led the company to press ahead with a number of infrastructure developments, in order to accommodate future capacity and improve service levels.

Rolawn’s Managing Director, Paul Dawson, commented: “Rolawn has always thrived on its forward-thinking approach and although the landscaping industry has faced unprecedented challenges recently we are already looking ahead to its recovery. We need to be ready to support the market and this latest work is part of the ongoing development of our Seaton Ross site to ensure we continue to meet supply chain demands.”

To maintain a seamless supply of high quality topsoils and barks, in conjunction with turf processing, the business has implemented changes to the flow of materials in and out of the production and warehousing areas at the site, in East Yorkshire. These changes will improve the efficient flow of goods and facilitate accurate distribution of products to customers through the creation of a linear process.

The reorganisation of the production site, which currently processes over a hundred thousand tonnes of bulk products and several million metres of turf annually, has included the creation of an additional extensive concrete marshalling yard which provides the clear level space to enable the improvements whilst also increasing site safety as vehicles movements, material volumes and staff numbers increase.

With this first phase of development complete, the business can now concentrate on phase two which will see the installation of a new building to provide extra storage as well as improved office facilities for the production team. The site will also house additional bespoke manufacturing equipment designed and built by Rolawn’s in-house Research and Development team.
