When to lay turf and seed

Rolawn turf can be laid all year round, however turf should never be laid onto frozen ground and laying turf in extended periods of hot and dry weather will require additional care and attention.

Turf must be rolled out immediately in spring and summer, and within 24 hours in autumn and winter, so it’s essential to prepare your site before arranging delivery. For best results, use Turf & Lawn Seeding Topsoil as a high-quality base layer to encourage healthy root development and drainage.

If you’re deciding whether to use turf or seed for your new lawn, explore Turfing Versus Seeding a Lawn Comparison, for an overview of the benefits of each method.

The ideal times to seed a new lawn or overseed an existing one are spring and autumn, when soil temperatures and moisture levels promote strong germination. Typically, germination takes between 7 and 21 days depending on weather and soil conditions. For detailed guidance, see How to Sow a Lawn from Seed and  When to Sow Grass Seed.

To achieve the same professional-quality finish as Rolawn turf, use Medallion® Lawn Seed 1kg for smaller gardens or Medallion® Lawn Seed 20kg for larger areas and commercial projects.
