ISO audit success for Rolawn Group

News - ISO team

Following successful external surveillance audits, leading producer of turf and topsoil, Yorkshire-based Rolawn Group has maintained its certification for the ISO 9001 and 14001 schemes, first awarded to the business in 2017. This continuing certification demonstrates once again why Rolawn has been trusted by gardeners and horticulture professionals across the UK, since 1975.

Ken Brewster, Rolawn’s Marketing Director, commented: “Ongoing review and refinement of products and processes has always been central to achieving the high standards that have become synonymous with Rolawn.

About Us - Rolawn ISO 14001 Environmental

This third-party verification that our quality and environmental systems meet the latest British and International standards provides added reassurance that that our processes and systems meet the standards required to consistently provide high-quality products and services to meet customer needs.

Trust is especially relevant to the market given the findings of the topsoil mystery shop that we commissioned last year. The study highlighted an alarming disparity in quality standards across the topsoil market with almost 50% of the soils sampled found not to be suitable for use, failing to meet the British Standard for Topsoil (BS3882:2015) for a number of reasons – including, in one instance, elevated levels of a known carcinogenic chemical.”

Ken added, “Rolawn customers can rest assured that the two products from our own range that were tested were among those which were deemed suitable for use as topsoil in general purpose landscaping schemes and residential gardens, and were free from contamination.”

ISO 9001 is the Quality Management System (QMS) Standard set by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), providing a framework for organisations to manage quality and continual improvement to meet both customer and regulatory requirements. ISO 14001 is the equivalent Environmental Management System (EMS) Standard which enables Rolawn to improve environmental performance in a structured way.

To obtain initial certification, Rolawn had to implement quality and environmental management systems which were then externally audited to ensure their compliance with the ISO standards. To maintain certification, Rolawn has an internal ISO management team responsible for assessing and refining the systems, with regular external audits conducted by an independent UKAS accredited certification body, Interface NRM.

Important update: Temporary 6.5% surcharge effective 7 April

At Rolawn, we are committed to maintaining the high standards of quality and service our customers expect, so we want to be open with our customers about a change that will affect pricing from Tuesday 7th April.

This decision has been taken in response to disruption to energy supplies, which has led to significant increases in wholesale prices, affecting not only fuel and fertiliser but also costs throughout our wider supply chain. As a business that relies heavily on fuel for both transport and operations, these sustained cost pressures have become increasingly difficult to absorb.

While we have worked hard to mitigate the impact, the scale and pace of recent price increases have now exceeded what we can sustain internally, and we therefore need to recover a proportion of these externally driven increases.

From Tuesday 7th April, a temporary 6.5% surcharge will apply to all products.

We know that any increase in price is frustrating, particularly at a time when many businesses and households are already feeling under pressure. That is why we want to be clear that this is not a decision we have made lightly, and not one we wanted to make. It has been introduced solely to help offset unavoidable cost inflation and allow us to continue delivering the quality, reliability and service standards associated with Rolawn.

We will continue to monitor market conditions closely and will review this surcharge as soon as circumstances allow, providing reasonable notice of any changes. We recognise that any price increase is unwelcome, but this step is necessary to ensure the continuity and reliability of our operations during a period of ongoing uncertainty.

We remain committed to providing the quality, reliability and service standards you expect from Rolawn, and we truly appreciate your understanding and continued support.

If you have any questions, please contact our customer support team who will be happy to help.
