Rolawn - Naconet™

Naconet™ is a revolutionary 100% bio-based, industrially compostable netting which offers a reassuring and responsible alternative to plastic netting. It is fully plant-based and is certified for industrial composting to recognised standards, ensuring it will break down safely and completely after use. This means no microplastics, no harmful residues, and no lasting impact on soil or surrounding environments.

For customers, this provides confidence that performance is not compromised in favour of sustainability. Naconet™ is engineered to match the durability and tensile strength of conventional netting, while supporting environmental goals and compliance requirements. Once its role is complete, it naturally biodegrades into water, CO₂ and biomass—leaving a clean, well‑prepared surface for long‑term results.

The quicker turf can become established, the quicker a customer will have a useable lawn which is less vulnerable to the negative impact of pests, diseases, wear and tear.

To achieve this, turf must be sown, grown and harvested with high degrees of accuracy and speed, producing harvestable product within a reduced time frame.

This philosophy requires an overall approach that encompasses the choice of land, method of topsoil cultivation, choice of seed mix, methods of sowing, growing and harvesting. Rolawn has used innovative techniques to design and build the appropriate machinery that enables this philosophy to become reality. Naconet performs a key role in this process by providing tensile strength in turf that previously relied on organic fibres and thatch to hold it together. When harvesting more mature turf, rolls are usually thicker, with a greater fibre content and denser thatch layer. These can have perceived advantages in the laying process, however, they are less likely to root as aggressively, which will delay establishment and increase the potential for freshly laid turf to not develop into a high quality, healthy grassed area.

By using Naconet there are also significant environmental benefits:

Rolawn takes positive action to care for the environment, and the development of our growing regime incorporating Naconet has contributed to our attaining the Sustainable Leaders in Business Scheme Gold Award with Diamond Banner (formerly Green Achiever). Naconet is produced by a leading manufacturer of engineered netting and has been developed following strong worldwide demand from the turf industry. Naconet is incorporated within Medallion turf at the time of sowing and retains its tensile strength for the growing cycle. Naconet is a non-toxic material and will not release or leave behind any toxic material before, during or after degradation.

Frequently asked questions

Has all your turf got Naconet in it?

No, currently it is approximately 20%.

How do you cut through the Naconet when trimming up a lawn?

Most customers do not notice Naconet in the turf because it cuts and lays exactly the same as un-netted turf.

If the netting becomes exposed what do I do?

In high wear areas over time the Naconet can come to the surface, simply use a pair of scissors to cut away the exposed sections.

Important update: Temporary 6.5% surcharge effective 7 April

At Rolawn, we are committed to maintaining the high standards of quality and service our customers expect, so we want to be open with our customers about a change that will affect pricing from Tuesday 7th April.

This decision has been taken in response to disruption to energy supplies, which has led to significant increases in wholesale prices, affecting not only fuel and fertiliser but also costs throughout our wider supply chain. As a business that relies heavily on fuel for both transport and operations, these sustained cost pressures have become increasingly difficult to absorb.

While we have worked hard to mitigate the impact, the scale and pace of recent price increases have now exceeded what we can sustain internally, and we therefore need to recover a proportion of these externally driven increases.

From Tuesday 7th April, a temporary 6.5% surcharge will apply to all products.

We know that any increase in price is frustrating, particularly at a time when many businesses and households are already feeling under pressure. That is why we want to be clear that this is not a decision we have made lightly, and not one we wanted to make. It has been introduced solely to help offset unavoidable cost inflation and allow us to continue delivering the quality, reliability and service standards associated with Rolawn.

We will continue to monitor market conditions closely and will review this surcharge as soon as circumstances allow, providing reasonable notice of any changes. We recognise that any price increase is unwelcome, but this step is necessary to ensure the continuity and reliability of our operations during a period of ongoing uncertainty.

We remain committed to providing the quality, reliability and service standards you expect from Rolawn, and we truly appreciate your understanding and continued support.

If you have any questions, please contact our customer support team who will be happy to help.
